Milestone 51

*Above banner image was taken at Chenoa Manor animal sanctuary near Avondale, PA. http://www.chenoamanor.org/ Link to learn more about Chenoa Manor and its mission

This milliare sits next to a fire hydrant - Barn door mailbox.  It appears to be lovingly maintained.

The milestone also appears in at least one book as a photo.

Between the missing 50 and present 51 Milestone is the Vintage with an ancient Sycamore tree dwarfing it.

The Williamstown had become the Vintage by 1912. Sachse describes it as an ordinary country tavern. The location is described as Route 30 at Vintage Road. The building pictured here sits on the NE corner of the intersection. Today the building is a Java Joe's and possibly apartments. The address is 3463 Lincoln Highway, Paradise.

This picture of the front door of the Vintage shows the transom above the door.  In colonial times it would have been possible to open it to capture breezes  and cool the building.

West  of the 51 Milestone is the Leaman Mansion built in either 1838 or 1840. The architectural style is Greek Revival.

A Terrain map with the salmon colored stickpin showing the general location of Milestone 51 on the North side of the road.
