Milestone 36 Missing - Last seen 1907

The milestone would be somewhere in the midst of Coatesville or Bridgetown as it was known in turnpike times. Measuring one mile from the 35 milestone would place it near Pennsylvania Avenue where the Midway Grill and Taproom is found on the South side of Route 30.

*Above banner image was taken in Coatesville at West end of town. Sitting at the intersection of Highway 82 and Route 30, on the north side of the intersection, you would look Southwest and see this. I found it somewhat symbolic of the Coatesville Steel Industry, the red sphere showing a multi-million dollar piece of technology for our military once created by Coatesville's Steel Mill Industry and in the background the broken windows of a closed steel mill today. This 27 ton sonarsphere once sat in the bow of a nuclear attack submarine. It was balanced out by the rest of the ship. It actually sat upright with the base being on the right end of the object pictured here. It has over 1200 hydroplanes inside which  were part of a sonar  detection system. In diameter this sphere is 15 feet by 15 feet by 21 feet.

The Prussian Eagle is described as being on the East bank of the West branch of the Brandywine River by Sachse. This description may be a little misleading as it was a 1/4 mile to the East of the river. It was remodeled after 1860 and renamed Speakman's Hotel.

Blow-up of turnpike map just West of Highway 82 and Sonarsphere. Ignore the "P" references in the image. They refer to a hard copy of this project.
