Milestone 10 - Missing

Between the 10th and 11th milestones and about a 1/2 mile South was the Horse and Groom (Est. 1763 or 1764). Don't try and get a drink there now as the building has become part of the Agnes Irwin School for Girls. It's hard to see due to the trees around it and its low profile. Legend has it that several American Generals stayed there during the Revolution.  Inn operation ceased in 1794, I'm not sure if it continued as a tavern. Over the years a variety of names were attached to the building such as Kirkdale, Highland Farm, Barclay Farm and the Sorrel Horse. Sachse mentions the Sorrel Horse in his 1912 book and it was also the Sorrel Horse in the 1950's. The Plough Inn on the milestone 11 page was also known as the Sorrel Horse at one point but the image does not resemble this building so I placed the image for the link there.

The 10 Milestone is now missing.  This sketch is based on the last known picture of it.

A map with the salmon colored stickpin showing the general location of Milestone 10 if it could be found.

Below: The complete sketch of the milestone 7 through milestone 11 stretch of the turnpike.
