Milestone 27 - Missing and no known picture of it.

*Above banner image, Miles 23 - 25 of Turnpike, is shown in full at the bottom of Milestone page 25.

There is a picture of the 27 milestone in the C.C.H.S. but it appears to be misfiled. The mileage didn't add up to 62 miles. The milestone may have been taken from another road. About 1/2 way between the missing 27 and 28 milestones is a stone tenant house built in the 1830's. It became the Ball and Ball Reproduction Sales and Museum in 1943 and now has been in operation over 60 years carving out its own  piece of Pennsylvania history in the process. Continuing West was a farmhouse built in the late 1700's. In 1827, somewhat enlarged it became the West Whiteland Inn. The name left with its proprietor in 1836. It still stands today although it does not appear to be occupied. The stable to its east was used as an antique shop until 2008 or 2009.

Almost due north of the West Whiteland Inn, about a 1/4 mile, is Colebrook Farm and its Georgian style Manor house completed in 1750. In 1798 an addition was made to the house and the English style barn was completed. At one point a long row of buttonwood trees lined the lane from the turnpike all the way to the farm. The Roberts family owned it from 1792 until 1914. In 1914 it was converted to a clubhouse for the Whiteland's Hunt. today the farm itself is gone. The Manor House and barn are surrounded by the Evian sub-division. The barn just to the West has been tastefully converted to housing units. The address is 575 Saxony Drive.
