Milestone 43 - The first one giving both East and West mileage. It reads 43 M. to P. and 19 M. to L.
Dacotah spotted this milestone near what was once the General Wayne Tavern, the third building that bore this name near the Pike. The Wayne sits along the north side of the road. Plans to develop the town of Moscow starting in 1814 never really took off although a map does exist with street names never used. Eventually the Tavern became the Moscow Academy.
According to information researched and placed on free pages.genealogy.roots web.com/-paxson/paxson6, this house was built by Timothy Paxson. He lived all his life in Sadsbury building the house in 1835 after he married Martha Rakestraw Lippincott on May 22, 1834. They had five children. Tim died somewhat abruptly on March 28, 1863. It said in his obituary that he was under the influence of a nervous disease which affected his mind and he had committed suicide by hanging himself. He was 62 .
